TYPES OF STBC RIDES
STBC has all types of rides - take a read! We cycle nearly every day of the week and several evenings during cycling season at a recreational pace, with rides ranging from a relaxed 10 mph to a challenging 16+ mph pace. Our region has fantastic cycling roads - and our rides are often of quiet rural farmland roads, on all sortsa terrain - from flat to hilly. We also offer urban and gravel grinder rides, and now and then ride a rail trail. Join STBC and our Google Groups email distribution list, pick a ride from our calendar, and join us!
WEEKEND RIDES STBC offers at least one ride every weekend when weather permits. Thee are listed on our bike calendar, with details on route, terrain, and pace posted on our Google group email distribution list two or three days in advance. WEEKDAY RIDES During the week rides are available every day (or evening) when weather permits. Ride leaders post these rides on our Google Group email distribution list two or three days in advance. Monday daytime - STBC President's ride Monday evenings - Ice Cream rides Tuesday daytime - Wheels to Meals rides Wednesday daytime - PB&J rides Thursday daytime - Wheels to Meals rides Thursday evening - Cranks & Comestibles rides Friday daytime - TGIF rides POP-UP RIDES Now and then our members post short notice 'pop-up' rides on Google Group... they 'pop-up' on a day and time other than our regularly posted rides. Post one! E-ASSISTS, HELMETS, and MEMBERSHIP E-assisted pedaling bikers are welcome on all of our rides. An ANSI approved helmet is required to be worn on our rides, and membership is required after your first ride.

Wheels to Meals (W2M) rides
Wheels to Meals (W2M) rides are offered during the weekday, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and are announced by the ride leader a few days ahead on the STBC Google Group email distribution list. The distances usually range from 20 to 40 miles, and the rides are not speed rated - our riders move at their own pace. We have riders of all abilities and we try to accommodate everyone who wants to ride with us. Some of our riders really get out and pound the bikes and often get in additional miles and additional hills. Others move along at a “social” pace. We make every attempt to never leave a rider behind and we have a group of experienced riders that rotate to “bring up the rear” and make sure no one gets lost or left behind with a breakdown. We have riders who will assist with flat tires and minor mechanical repairs.
Most of the group members are retirees - and in the summer professors and teachers join us - and we have many who ride with the group well into their 80’s. As the name implies, the one common theme of our rides is the lunch stop. W2Ms provides physical exercise, good conversation, and social interaction.
PB&J rides
PB & J rides are shorter and cycled at a more relaxed pace than many STBC rides. They are often held on Wednesdays, are done by 4 pm, and are announced by the ride leader a few days ahead on the STBC Google Group email distribution list. They are typically about 20 miles long and around 10 mph - a relaxed sightseeing and conversational pace. Riders bring snacks and water along (perhaps a PB&J!), and sometimes a restaurant or ice cream stop is planned. PB & J rides stop at key points to collect riders - nobody rides alone! Cyclists keep an eye on the riders behind them, slowing down if they don't see them so no one gets lost. It is a group ride and riders stay together!
STBC President's ride
This is a weekly ride where you can talk about your ideas, suggestions or concerns with the Club President. An “I’m listening” ride which provides better transparency and to bring your thoughts, ideas, comments and suggestions to the forefront with the on making our Club even better. Your input matters! Of course you are most welcome to ride even if you have no feedback to provide!
This ride will be very basic, simple, mostly flat and rural farm roads with minimal traffic.. which will alternate with a few variations of our much enjoyed West Creek ride starting in Flemingville to points north (lower/upper Fairfield, Speedsville/Rt 79). Ride mileage can range from 10 -34mi. Although there will be a determined ride route, the riders will have a choice of which iteration of west creek they would prefer to do. All riders of every level and pace are welcome including our cherished PBJ riders. People can group up with like minded cyclist and ride together. This is an out and back ride literally up the road and back so no ride/w GPS would be needed. Typically we break at the Speedsville general store or the town square for a rest and bite to eat.
Ride detail: West Creek and nearby roads (Owego) Ride dates: Every Monday during riding season Ride time : 10am (may vary with weather) Ride Start location: Flemingville Methodist Church
Ice Cream rides
Ice cream rides are typically offered on Monday evenings to - you guessed it - an ice cream shop. They are usually less than 20 miles and at a relaxed pace.
Cranks and Comestibles rides
Cranks and Comestibles rides are on Thursday or sometimes Friday evenings depending on weather and choice of venue. Wheels rolling at 6 pm from locations to be announced each week, alternating between locations in the Sidney area. Ride distances vary 15 to 25 miles with terrain of easy to moderate character. Less and more strenuous route options available and usually chosen by whomever shows up. Afterwards all are invited to join for local food - comestible - offerings.
TGIF rides
TGIF rides are new and were the inspiration of a few members who have Fridays off from work. Retirees and those who have some time off are welcome to join in! The pace is usually moderate, and time will tell what the distance is!
Gravel Grinder rides
Gravel grinder rides are on-road - on rural gravel, dirt, and paved roads. They are typically less than 20 miles, and at a slower pace due to the terrain. These rides are often in the hills of PA just over the border where many of these kind of roads are.
